Project Description

Aitken Hill Community Centre is an open, flexible space adorned with lush lawns and softfall surfaces, ready to be utilised in countless imaginative ways. Whether it's running, jumping, or simply relaxing on the grass, the possibilities are endless.

The transition from the veranda area to the playground is seamlessly addressed using ramps and steps, ensuring accessibility for all. The veranda itself has been thoughtfully divided using raised planters and garden beds, creating an informal yet inviting space. The edge of the veranda has been beautifully softened with the installation of additional garden beds, extending the deck to incorporate sandpits, lookout features, and integrated garden areas. This integration blends the natural and built environment, providing a harmonious setting for play and relaxation.

There are also large public areas at the front of the building consisting of Lawns, mounded and Trees as well as seating and carparking areas. As community members can hire the facilities to host evens, many of the internal spaces also have breakout and other courtyard spaces. Some of these are fenced, but others open into the public areas, so it was important to have a transition, which prevented people walking away or entering from these areas but allowed viewing of the building.
