Project Description

The Outdoor Environment Area at Footscray Primary School was redesigned to incorporate outdoor classroom and productive garden spaces — creating a landscape that goes well beyond the conventional school ground.  This is a project where the landscape became a genuine teaching tool: edible, tactile, culturally layered, and designed to grow with the children who use it.

Working alongside Perkins Architects and the Victorian School Building Authority, Botanical Traditions delivered the full landscape design for this integrated early learning and primary school environment — a project that has since been recognised with a state design award.

The design centred on two interconnected ideas: productive learning and place-making. Rather than starting from scratch, the design respected the history of the site.
