The proposed planting design of 1 Colombo Street, Mitcham updates the multi-residential property’s central courtyard into a calm, welcoming and visually engaging shared garden. A clear planting framework is established for both the communal and private courtyard areas, responding carefully to existing level changes through grading plans and sections. The design also included supporting long-term plant growth with respective irrigation plans for implementation.

Responding to site conditions of very shady Winter periods and hot, exposed Summer periods, the planting palette draws on species associated with Cool Temperate Rainforests and Heathland communities to improve the site. This approach provides a planting mix that is resilient, visually varied and well suited to the constraints of the courtyard environment.

The planting approach priorities robust, readily available species with low maintenance requirements, ensuring the landscape can be managed using standard garden maintenance practices while continuing to perform reliably over time. The design maintains alignment with previous landscape framework, with adjustments focused on improving plant suitability, availability and long-term performance.
