Project Description |
The Landscape design for Niddrie Primary School not only redefine the physical environment but also foster a harmonious and functional space for both learning and leisure. At the heart of our playground design philosophy for this site was the creation of practical outdoor learning zones that seamlessly integrate with the surroundings. These designated areas, adorned with comfortable seating and strategically positioned trees to create shade, are intended to serve as dynamic learning spaces, encouraging students to engage with nature in an educational setting. Furthermore, these spaces are versatile, doubling as informal gathering spots during lunch and break times, enhancing the overall school experience. There are fixed play options laid out in a ‘Ninja’ style course configuration. One of the defining features of this landscape redesign is the introduction of 'Signature Trees’. These carefully chosen trees are not only selected for their ability to provide shade but also for their capacity to serve as habitats for local fauna. The incorporation of shade trees ensures a well-balanced environment, shielding the school grounds with much-needed shade and shelter during the warmer months. Respecting the existing natural elements, the design has integrated pre-existing trees into the overall scheme. This inclusion respects the established ecosystem and ensures a seamless blend between the old and the new. The Planting Design is thoughtfully curated, considering their compatibility with the existing trees, and enhancing the overall ecological value landscape. |
