Project Description |
The Platypus Junction 'Bush Centre' provides a valuable 'Bush' experience for children from 6 weeks to 6 years of age. Children will be encouraged to take the lead in the outside environment and play, explore and learn in the bush type setting. Plants are mainly native and indigenous. The centre has many existing trees and the building and landscape are sympathetic to these, permeable surfaces are used and landscape surfaces are constructed on or above the natural grade where possible. The Playspace design encourages safe risk taking, imagination, conflict resolution, gross and fine motor skill development. The children will be able to observe the changing seasons, talk about and interact with native plants, and listen to birds. It is well understood that children who play outdoors are introduced to concepts such as problem solving, language, science and caring for the environment at an earlier age than otherwise would happen. The natural setting provides many loose parts for play such as feathers, sticks, stones, nuts and other seed pods, dirt and sand. As is typically of highly used landscapes, we completed infill planting for this centre in 2022, we recommend that all playsapces have infill planting completed every 3 or so years. |
